So here’s the deal. I had an idea for the cover art for the INSPIRE CD. But the center of the image was a bit vague. So I went into a meditation and asked for an answer about what would be best. I immediately saw the image that would work really well and thought that was it.
But then, another image appeared to me. It slowly, emerged with increasing illuminating light. Into my focus came floating wings suspended in a deep indigo, infinite night sky, sun rising behind the wings and seven shimmering spheres floating impressively, beautifully beneath. It was as if to say, “Oh and by the way, in case you’d like to consider something entirely different, here’s this idea…”
It was unspeakably peaceful, powerful, silent, awe-inspiring, gorgeous. It was intimidating. How could I possibly reproduce such an image on a two dimensional surface? What did it mean? I was dedicating the profit from sales of this CD to seven international charities (listed below), so I thought that’s what the seven spheres represented. As for the rest, well just the feeling it evoked was enough for me. Even so, and even though I’m a pretty good artist, I didn’t know how to make it look like what I saw. It took me over a year to even be willing to start it.
Finally my friend Judy simplified it for me. When I told her I couldn’t accurately reduce such beauty into a 2-D painting, she just said, “Of course you CAN’T! What you saw was in a different dimension. So what. Do what you can and let that be enough.” That was the magic bullet. I was able to paint it and let it be. Thanks Judy.
